A funeral procession, the women scream until they fall down in a faint, the men hold them up, the boys cry silently sand swear to take up arms in their father's name. It is the same funeral procession that their fathers saw, their fathers before them, and their grandfathers unto generations unknown, where the same vow was taken. Claire North
About This Quote

In 1832, a man named John O'Sullivan wrote a poem called "The Burial of Sir John Moore." In it, he wrote about the famous battle of Corunna which took place between the British and French. When Sir John Moore was mortally wounded, he died in the arms of his men who carried him back to their lines. His body was then placed on a cart that was driven into a field near Corunna where it was left for several hours. Several burials took place that day both before and after Sir John's.

But at some point, a woman from the village of Arinez Peña arrived and began screaming from her grief over Sir John's death. At one point, she fainted from grief and was carried away by her male companion. The men present mourned for Sir John as they had seen him die in their own fathers' steads.

When they were done mourning, they said the same words to their sons that they had said to Sir John when he gave them his final orders. And then they got up and carried on with the war against the French.
